Fantastic! How insightful! I will always remember when my mom took to me to see Bob Carlisle with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. The full sound of all the instruments and the architectural wonder of the building sparked my imagination in many ways. I can't honestly say that I've ever had a role model or hero. There have been influences that I've admired or become friends with. Mostly women. Lately I have been most inspired by goddesses like Sara-la-Kali (Saint Sara) or Mary Magdalene. I think the one vision that ploughs me forward is the vision of myself with my family, living in the country, and writing full-time and no longer employed.

I've become ever more fascinated with Laura Ingalls Wilder and her daughter Rose Wilder Lane. Laura endured some pretty tough hardships (understatement), but according to neighbors and friends, always remained positive and cheerful, preferring to look on the positive side of life. She focused on family, living in the country, writing along the way and eventually making a nice income from her Little House books. Her daughter became a professional author and journalist and is considered one of the three founders of American Libertarianism. In fact, a young man whom she somewhat adopted and eventually was given rights to the Little House copyright (writing some books himself) was the first Libertarian candidate for US President. The first Little House book was published when Mrs. Wilder was 65 years old. I find that alone to be inspirational. It's always good to have a few extra heroes to look up to, if for no other reason than knowing where to aim.
